Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA)

Body composition analysis measures body composition electronically. Body composition analysis is the clinical assessment of tissue and fluid compartments in the human body. Body Bioimpedance analysis is used in therapeutic applications. A normal distribution of tissue and fluid in the body is associated with immunity, high function, and longevity. An abnormal distribution of tissue and fluid in the body is associated with susceptibility, low function, and the effects of disease and aging. Our body is bioelectric and the Body Bioimpedance analysis measures our vitality at a cellular level.

The report from a completed BIA provides information of:

  • Lean muscle mass in weight and percent
  • Fat mass in weight and percent
  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), amount of calories the body uses for basic body metabolism at rest.
  • Basal Metabolic Index (BMI), height to weight ratio, indicator of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and other health risk factors
  • Cell membrane permeability, osmotic pressure, inside vs. outside the cell
  • Total body water, an indicator of inflammation, measured in pounds of excess body weight in liquid
  • Phase angle, a representation of biological age vs. physiological age

Exercise, dietary and lifestyle changes are recommended in an effort to restore health and longevity to the patient.
